The Front for the Liberation of the French Somali Coast was established by Mahamoud Harbi and Adan Abulle in 1958 in response to the French establishing the colony of French Somaliland. The group fought for independence from French colonization. In May 1968, the FLCS attempted to assassinate executive members of the French governing body in the region. The group carried out attacks through 1976, when it last kidnapped children on a bus. After the territory gained independence from France as Djibouti, the group was disbanded.
