Awdal Regional Administration Army

The group’s goal is to be semi-autonomous in Somalia. The ARAA does not believe in secessionism, but rather Somali Unionism. This is the idea of a unified, federal Somalia. The army is the Awdal Regional Administration’s security apparatus. The group is attempting to break from Somaliland and reestablish a unified, federated Somalia. The administration announced its intentions and goals on March 18, 2015, with local hero Suldan Wabar playing a key role in the formation of the administration and army. The leader of the Awdal state in Somaliland, Ugaas Abdirashiid Ugaas Rooble, has called on soldiers to return to Awdal to liberate the state from Somaliland and help the Awdal Regional Administration achieve its goals of semi-autonomy and reestablishing a unified Somalia.
