The Yarmuk Jamaat began in mid-2002 in Kabardino-Balkaria under Muslim Atayev. His death in 2004 prompted Anzor Astemirov, who would be a leading figure in the Caucasus Emirate, to lead the Jamaat. They wanted to establish the independence of Kabardino-Balkaria from the Russian Federation. The Jamaat is most known for the failed Nalchik raid in 2005. In 2007, the Yarmuk Jamaat no longer functioned as an independent entity; they became members of the newly established Caucasus Emirate upon its creation in 2007.
