The Reformist Group was a Kurdish Islamist group that broke away from the Islamic Unity Movement of Kurdistan (IUMK) in early-mid 2001, under the leadership of Mullah Krekar. Krekar had previously been a member of the IMK and subsequently of Kurdish Hamas and the IUMK. Other than its Salafi Sunni ideology, little is known about the Reformist group as it was only in existence for a matter of months before merging with several other Arab and Kurdish Islamist groups to form Ansar al-Islam. Krekar was appointed head of this new organization.
