Main Tabs GroupOverviewFormed: January 1, 1974The Socialist Party of Turkish Kurdistan (PSK), or Partiya Sosyalista Kurdistan, was founded 1974. The group was also known as Riya Azadi (meaning "Way to Freedom"), which was the name of a book the PSK published in 1975. The PSK's ideology intertwined Kurdish nationalism with radical leftist philosophy. The PSK was pro-Soviet and argued that Kurdistan was a semi-feudal colony that needed a democratic revolution to establish an independent, socialist Kurdistan. The group established organizations to mobilize students, peasants, and workers in southeast Turkey. However, it eventually moved its activities to Europe after the 1980 Turkish coup.
