The Liberation Army of Dagestan was formed in 1999. This radical group took responsibility for the apartment building bombings in Moscow, Russia in September 1999. Later investigation showed that the Liberation Army of Dagestan was linked to the Islamic Army of Dagestan led by Al-Khattab and Shamil Basayev, which was responsible for the invasion of Dagestan in 1999. Like other terrorist groups functioning out of the North Caucasus the Liberation Army of Dagestan wanted to establish an independent region (Dagestan) from the Russian Federation. There is limited information about this group, but it is known that the group is now defunct and its members function within the Caucasus Emirate.
