Main Tabs GroupOverviewFormed: January 1, 1976Disbanded: January 1, 1980Kawa was a leftist Kurdish group established in 1976. Kawa had a Maoist ideology and desired that an anti-imperialist, anti-feudal revolution occur with support from Kurdish students and peasants. The group carried out most of its activities in rural Kurdish areas between Gaziantep and Van, though its goals advocated the establishment of a broader independent Kurdistan. Kawas violent protests and land occupations made it one of the more radical Kurdish groups of its time. Kawa was dissolved after the 1980 military coup in Turkey.
