Jaysh al-Sanadeed is a militant group that opposes the Islamic State (IS) but allegedly supports the Assad Regime. Sheikh Hmeidi Daham al-Jarba formed the group in 2011 after opposition forces began attacking Arab tribal lands within Northeastern Syria’s Kurdish majority areas. Jaysh al-Sanadeed cooperates with the Peoples Protection Units (YPG), and in a joint attack in early 2015, captured 103 villages from IS and killed 175 IS fighters in the Hassakah governorate. In late 2015, Jaysh al-Sanadeed joined the Syrian Democratic Forces, an umbrella group that includes the YPG.
